At Essex Racial Equality Unit (EREU), we provide independent advocacy on a case by case basis.

Our goal is to ensure your voice is heard, your rights are upheld, and you receive fair treatment when dealing with public services, workplaces, or legal matters.

What is Independent Advocacy?

Independent advocacy ensures that individuals have access to:
Fair representation when dealing with authorities, institutions, or legal processes.
Support in challenging discrimination, wrongful accusations, or unfair treatment.
Guidance in navigating complaints, appeals, or legal proceedings.
A strong voice in cases of racial injustice, hate crimes, and social exclusion.

We act on behalf of individuals, families, and communities to:
📌 Challenge decisions made by organisations or public bodies.
📌 Provide case support for victims of racism, discrimination, or workplace injustice.
📌 Attend meetings, hearings, or mediations to ensure fairness.
📌 Assist in formal complaints or appeals to secure positive outcomes.

Our charges / Fee Structure:

We believe in accessible and fair support, which is why we offer a free 30-minute initial assessment to discuss your requirements.

If you require further support or intervention, you are able to purchase our services on a needs led basis.

Our charges / Fee Structure for bespoke packages are quoted on an individual basis.

Building upon our extensive experience, we offer bespoke packages designed to empower communities and address critical social issues:

1. Community Development Packages

  • Funding Access Workshops: Guiding grassroots organisations through the complexities of securing financial support, including navigating local authority grants and national funding opportunities.

2. Cultural Awareness and social critical issues education

  • Training on Harmful Cultural Practices: Providing in-depth understanding of practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), honour-based abuse, and their legal implications in the UK. Our sessions emphasise safeguarding and human rights, ensuring participants are equipped to recognise and address these issues effectively. Our topics are sensitive and include understanding county lines, drug and alcohol, working with unaccompanied minors.

3. Policy Consultation Facilitation

  • Stakeholder Engagement Sessions: Organising and leading consultations that gather diverse community insights, ensuring that policy reviews are informed by those directly affected and fostering inclusive decision-making.

4. Hate Crime Awareness and Education

  • Educational Programs: Developing tailored curricula for schools and community groups that address the roots of hate crimes, promote empathy, and equip individuals with tools that build confidence, to combat discrimination and use reporting processes.

5. Domestic Abuse Support for Global Majority Communities

  • Awareness Workshops: Highlighting the unique challenges faced by minoritized ethnic women, including barriers to reporting and accessing support. Our programs aim to build trust and provide culturally sensitive pathways to assistance.
