About Essex Racial Equality Unit

Advocating for racial equality and justice

Essex Racial Equality Unit has been set up in response to the ever growing need for substantial intervention in combating exclusion based on race.

As an individual consultant with over 20 years of experience dedicated to promoting inclusivity and challenging racism, I have gained a reputation in Essex for being  able to provide expert advice and intervention for those experiencing racism, along with customized training programs for organizations aiming to engage with ethnically diverse communities.

I have developed, delivered and supported many projects across the county both as an individual and as a wider stakeholder.

My passion and skills extend to working with young people and as I am also the founder member for New generation Development Agency. a non for profit organisation that gives young people opportunities to become civic leaders whilst connecting communities together through multicultural or bespoke events. Who is Sangita?

Born and raised in East London in the 70's, I spent most of my career in London working in various roles related to the charity sector.

When I took the brave decision to move to Essex over 25 years ago, I did not realise how that would change my life  both professionally and personally.

I do the work I do because there is a need.

I have provided intervention for cases where -

1) Planning permissions have been refused to travellers because of their race.

2) Racist perpetrators have been labelled victims

3) Victims have been labelled perpetrators because they have reacted to racism or racial profiling.

4) Domestic violence or honour abuse is unreported due to the fear of interacting with some public services.

5) Ethnically diverse children placed in residential care or foster homes are not having basic needs met

6) Where kids have been racially bullied by both staff and peers and the impact is devastating.

7) Families have nearly lost their homes due to false anti social behaviour complaints

8) Private firms have exploited foreign workers and refused to pay them, even though work was completed.

The list goes on.

Each case is different and I operate on a free assessment basis for 30 minutes.

The type of intervention I offer will be broken down into 3 stages -

1) Full Assessment - This is where I spend 1.5 hours discussing your case and viewing any evidence.

2) Intervention - Based on the outcomes of a full assessment you may decide that you have enough information to be able to proceed on your own. If you are unable to do so, then you may decide to employ me on an per intervention basis. For example you may need me to write an email, or attend a meeting or question an organisation

1) Racism - Have you experienced racism whilst trying to access a private, public or voluntary sector service?

2) Malicious complaints - Have you experienced malicious neighbourhood complaints that have resulted in wrongful anti social behaviour orders?

3) Honour abuse/ pressure to conform - Are you a victim of honour abuse or feeling pressure to confirm to unethical cultural norms that are breaking UK laws?

4) Domestic violence/control/modern slavery - Do you need help but scared services in Essex won't understand your needs due to your perceived culture or traditions?

 5) Institutional racism/racial profiling - Are you treated differently when trying to access a service due to your race?

 6) Racial bullying in schools - Is this having an impact on your child's education, confidence and social skills? Do they feel isolated?

7) Do you simply need advice  please contact me
